1911 Hotel Galvez

The Hotel Galvez was built to demonstrate Galvston's recovery from the 1900 storm. A number of local investors, led by I.H. Kempner constructed the project at 21st Street and Seawall Blvd. at a cost of about $1 million. A commemorative book was published for the Grand Opening and most of the photos from that book are here. Today, the Hotel Galvez is undergoing a phased renovation. Phase I, the site work, is complete, and restored the entrance to Seawall Blvd. added a new pool and gracious landscaping capturing the spirit of the original site.   Phase II, completed in 1998, renovated all of the guest rooms on floors 2-6.   Subsequently, the ground floor and ballrooms were renovated and a small number of exclusive suites were added to the seventh and eighth floors (under the small taller section of the building in the center)
